Introducing full transaction detection for Cloudflare WAF
Cloudflare Blog · October 21, 2026

Traditional web application firewalls inspect inbound traffic blind to whether an attack actually succeeded, forcing security teams to chase speculative alerts while genuine data exfiltration slips past unnoticed. Cloudflare has addressed this structural blind spot by updating its firewall to correlate inbound HTTP requests directly with outbound server responses. Rather than guessing threat severity purely from incoming payloads, the platform now evaluates both halves of the HTTP exchange to confirm whether a backend server returned unauthorized database dumps, verbose error traces, or sensitive administrative data. This shift moves security operations from blunt pattern matching to verified exploit detection and automated misconfiguration discovery. This change materially reduces forensic overhead across engineering teams while catching zero-day vulnerabilities that bypass signature filters. An indie SaaS founder
